Martial Arts Uniforms: Karate to Kendo
Leafing through a martial arts magazine, one day I stumbled upon the most vile of all clothing I have never seen: a uniform set up after the fashion of the flag of the United States. Stars, stripes, everything was there. I think the worst about the image, and what causes it remain in my mind is the fact that the man in uniform was on a kick high side. His position, most unfortunately, allowed me to see that the uniform pants are mostly red and white, one blue with white stars were used to create the crotch. I still have nightmares.
Fortunately for all those involved in martial arts, this monstrosity is the exception rather than the rule. Martial arts uniforms sets are usually rather austere and simple, allowing the wearer movement and maximum comfort. There are, of course, a variety of martial arts there, and the name of the uniform varies not only by language, but my style martial. In karate, it is designated as a "Karatesuits;" in aikido, as a "aikidogi;" the tae kwon as Dobok, "and so on.
Many These uniforms are very similar in appearance, composed of losing, usually cotton trousers with elastic strap or cord. The pants extend up ankles and hang there, without elastic. The aim of the summit of clothing comes at the bottom of the hips and wraps around the body like a dress, the sleeves are generally wrists. The suit wound is secured with ties on both sides and with a belt, also of cotton, the color means the rank of the wearer.
While most martial arts uniforms of this type are white, black is also relatively common. In some schools, a Once a student has reached the level of 1st dan black belt, he or she is allowed to wear black uniforms or black border. In the U.S., it is common the name and logo of a particular school martial arts to be printed on the back of the uniform. This is particularly true for schools compete in tournaments.
A notable exception to the uniform above the garment is often used by practitioners of tai chi chuan and kung fu. These outfits can be made from cotton, silk, but is often used as well. They can be almost any color imaginable. The pants are not very different from those described above. The summit, however, is characterized by the frog buttons that often extend the neck to the hem. Furthermore, the upper part generally has a necklace of traditional Chinese style, similar to what one might see on a Cheongsam.
Maybe The most dramatic martial arts uniform is the one used in kendo. Kendo is a martial art of Japanese Sword Fighting. His clothing consists of long, full trousers that seem almost to be a skirt, a high similar to that worn in karate rings, specially designed armor protection. A set of Bagu is a mask, shoulder protectors, protector of the torso, gauntlets, leg protectors, protector of the groin and sometimes Shin protectors. A fighter Kendo in full regalia is a very intimidating sight.
