Will a Mizuno Wave Rider be a good shoe for me?
I have run in a Nike Zoom Structure Triax for more than two years and it seems to have been a good shoe for me. However the pair I am on now is getting worn out and I am looking for a new shoe. I have very narrow feet and shoes with a “low” toe box are pretty important feature as my toes are very long and narrow, too. The physical therapist here at the base (I am in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan) says that Mizuno makes good shoes for narrow feet and I see that you can get the Wave Rider in a narrow, but the toe box is medium height. I don’t want to buy a shoe that isn’t going to work for me and I am battling shin splints right now. Can anyone offer my some information or advice?
Shin splints are usually caused by running too much on your toes.
And a shoe that’s had more than 500 miles put on it, regardless of its appearance has lost most of its shock absorbing qualities.
Right now ANY shoe would be a good replacement for you.
The Mizuno Wave Rider series is excellent — I’ve used them. However, shoe choice is a personal thing. I doubt you will go wrong with the Wave Rider.
Seeing as you’re in a country not known for having many shoe stores — I’d go with what you know best. Try to order the Nike Zoom Structure if it worked for you if its available. But I think you would be better served by trying to not have such a heavy forefoot strike — try a little bit of a midfoot strike (and below your center of gravity) to alleiviate the stress to the shins. DO NOT heel strike as it can lead to knee problems.
Currently using Saucony T3 — trail running shoes.
