P90x Dumbbells – Should You Use Resistance Bands Or Dumbbells For P90x?
There really isn’t much that you need in order to the the P90x extreme home fitness program. You’ll need dumbbells or resistance bands, and a chin-up bar for the many pull-ups and chin-ups done in the program. After that, there are some optional pieces of equipment you may want, but those two are all you really need.
Dumbbells are the popular choice among those who want to build mass, but really either one could be used effectively for building mass. If you go the exercise band route you will need at least 3 different bands with different tensions. They need to provide enough tension so that you can effectively workout all of your muscles. You’ll need a lighter resistance, a medium, and a heavy band.
Dumbbells can cost a fortune, especially if you go all out and purchase every set from 5-50 lbs. To save money, many people either pick up used ones or they buy adjustable dumbbells. Adjustable weights let you pick the weight you want with a turn of a dial or the placement of a pin. You get the benefit of having a ton of different weight options, but you don’t have a stack weights taking up space in your home. This option is much more economical and makes much more sense for the at home exerciser.
To save even more money, many people go out and buy resistance bands. They are much cheaper than free weights, but they get the job done. Beachbody sells packages of B-Lines Resistance Bands that contain 3 bands or more with different resistance levels. You’ll need at least 3 bands with one providing lighter resistance for your weaker areas, medium for your stronger muscles, and heavy for your strongest muscles. Pick a band that will give you a workout for your strongest muscles, and then pick one that is lighter, and another one that will be your lightest of the 3 and you will be ready for P90x.
Many people get caught up in deciding which is better, dumbbells or resistance bands, but to be honest, they both have their pros and cons. In the end, they both help with building muscle and strength because they both provide resistance, and that is what matters.
